The ABA is very pleased to announce that we have selected Laura Peña as ProBAR’s next Director and Aimee Korolev as its first-ever Deputy Director.
Originally from the Rio Grande Valley, Laura Peña is a nationally recognized expert in immigration and civil rights law. In her most recent position as the Beyond Borders Program Director at the Texas Civil Rights Project, she worked to enhance legal rights for migrants in need of protection at the Texas-Mexico border and initiated state-wide solutions to systemic injustices at the border. Previously, she served as Pro Bono Counsel for the ABA Commission on Immigration based out of the ProBAR office in Harlingen. She was formerly Assistant Chief Counsel with the Department of Homeland Security and Senior Advisor and White House Liaison with the U.S. State Department.
Laura will begin serving as ProBAR Director on March 20, 2023.
For over ten years, Aimee has dedicated her practice to protecting the rights of vulnerable immigrant populations. Aimee Korolev joined ProBAR in June 2021 as a Supervising Attorney and was promoted to Legal Director in November 2021. She has been serving as ProBAR’s Interim Programs Director since November 2022. Aimee previously worked as Project Director of the Immigrants’ and Language Rights Center at Indiana Legal Services. Aimee also served as Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Immigration Clinic of Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
Aimee will begin service as Deputy Director on February 13, 2023.
