Join ProBAR’s Last Line of Defense: Detention Legal Access Program! This program expands access to legal services for individuals in immigration detention through a virtual intake model, supported by an online platform designed to make the pro bono experience accessible, meaningful, and well-supported.

Why now?

Detention centers are full and the need for legal assistance has never been greater. The administration’s increased immigration enforcement and elimination of funding for legal access services make volunteer support more critical than ever. Texas holds the highest number of detained immigrants in the country, and here on the border, we are seeing people arrested from across the country and detained in remote detention facilities in our South Texas region.

How it works.

If this opportunity speaks to you, complete the Volunteer Interest Form  & select your preferred role. You’ll receive onboarding materials to get started, including a comprehensive volunteer guide, a role-specific script, and self-paced training materials to complete before your assignment.

One week before your assignment turnaround, you will receive an email with your LLD assignments. You will then have 7 calendar days from date of receipt to schedule and complete the legal intake only, full consultation, or advice & counsel only assignment(s).

Each intake or consultation takes approximately one hour to complete.  If not completed within the hour, you can schedule a second hour for a virtual visit on a different date.  Sign up today to join us on the Front Lines!
