Preparing Young Migrants for Immigration Proceeding: ProBAR Services for Tender-Age Children

ProBAR is excited to share insight into what guiding, and ultimately preparing, young unaccompanied migrants for immigration proceedings is like.

Tender-age clients range from 5 to 12 years old. When ProBAR staff provide services to tender-age clients, they take a unique approach to ensure a child absorbs as much information as possible [or, “…to ensure a child absorbs the most information”). Ensuring access to high quality information and legal education empowers migrant children throughout their immigration process.

This article highlights the comprehensive and holistic approach our Shelter Services team utilizes in their work with unaccompanied migrant children. The services provided play a crucial role in the lives and the immigration legal cases of the children navigating the complex immigration processes. From being in the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to a hearing before the immigration court, our Shelter Services department advocates and prepares unaccompanied migrant children throughout these processes.
