On August 1, 2025, ProBAR formally expanded its service area to include Corpus Christi, Texas. ProBAR now provides legal orientation, representation, and connection to services for unaccompanied immigrant children in five youth shelters and long-term foster care facilities in the region.
ProBAR stepped in to provide legal services at a critical time, inheriting nearly 100 new potential clients overnight. Many of the children in these facilities had gone months without access to legal counsel during their deportation process. In one case, a young 16-year-old from Mauritania had requested asylum protection based on his fear of racial and religious persecution in his home country. His asylum interview was already scheduled for late August. ProBAR had to quickly take action to place the case with a pro bono attorney within just two weeks. This child, along with many other vulnerable immigrant children detained in Corpus Christi, will now get access to the legal defense they so desperately need.
