News & Updates

  1. ProBAR’s Spring 2026 Newsletter!

This spring, ProBAR walked with a family whose home burned down overnight, stood alongside an asylum seeker who has a work permit but still fears every checkpoint, and fought to bring children home from prolonged detention. We armed community members with Know-Your-Rights knowledge, showed up before dawn for a client who refused to give up, and witnessed what happens when orderly paths become targets for removal. Read our Spring Newsletter for a closer look at the crisis, the resilience, and the work you make possible.

  2. ProBAR’s Social Work Team: Empowering Clients Through Human Connection & Access to Services

When a fire consumed the home of a local immigrant family late one night in December 2025, Ana Carrera, a social worker with ProBAR, was among the first to respond to the emergency.

Last week, I had the privilege of traveling with ABA President-elect Barbara Howard to visit ProBAR, a long-standing ABA legal services program in Harlingen, Texas. President-elect Howard came away inspired by ProBAR staff and moved by the clients and advocates she met there.

  4. Children Belong With Their Families, and ProBAR is Fighting to Bring Them Home

As Spring blooms, our team celebrates the resilience and strength we see in our clients. As we continue to fight to reunify children with their families, we bear witness to the costs of prolonged detention, the joy of families reunited, and the resilience of children. No one better embodies resilience than the children ProBAR serves.

When you imagine ProBAR at work, you might picture our office or a courtroom; but for ProBAR’s Community Team – who primarily serves individuals who are not in detention – the workplace can change multiple times per month.
